Do you need one for Qatar?
Qatar gives short-term visitors driving rights on an international permit or recognised licence documentation carried with the licence; some nationalities enjoy direct short-stay recognition, others need the international document for the desk to say yes at all.
Metrash-era systems process fines digitally against the rental's file. As across the Gulf, unreadable licence data is where friction starts — the translation is the cheap way to make every interaction (desk, police, insurer) read your licence identically.
At the rental desk

Can I drive to Saudi from Qatar?

Weekend traffic — anything to know?
Friday mornings are empty (prayer), Thursday nights are not. The city's roundabout-to-signal conversions confuse maps occasionally; the signage is bilingual and excellent.
